The paper entitled “Estimating peak oxygen uptake based on postexercise measurements in swimming“, authored by Diego Chaverri, Thorsten Schuller, Xavier Iglesias, Uwe Hoffmann, and Ferran A. Rodríguez has been accepted for publication in Applied Physiology, Nutrition, and Metabolism (JCR IF: 2.339).
The study assessed the validity of postexercise measurements in estimating VO2peak in swimming. The authors compared VO2 measurements during supramaximal exercise with various commonly adopted methods: 1) first 20-s average; 2) linear and semilogarithmic backward extrapolation at different time intervals; and 3) a recently developed HR- VO2 modelling procedure. The results confirmed that the new modelling procedure based on postexercise VO2 and HR measurements is a valid and accurate procedure for estimating VO2peak in swimmers and avoids the estimation bias produced by other methods.
