Martin Truijens earns doctor degree at VUA

On January 13th 2012, Martin Truijens successfully defended his doctoral thesis entitled “Work in Progress: Altitude Training and Adaptation in Swimming” at the Faculty of Human Movement Sciences of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, supervised by A.P. Hollander, H.M. Toussaint, and B.D. Levine. Ferran A. Rodríguez served as member of the examining committee. Dr. Truijens is head swimming coach at the E.ON-NZA training center in Amsterdam, and member of the coaching staff of the Dutch National and Olympic swimming teams. Martin’s thesis included three publications in JAP derived from the IHT 2003 research project, a collaborative study on intermittent hypoxic exposure in athletes (see below). Martin is an external member of the group and collaborates in the Hi-SWIM and ALTITUDE projects. Congratulations Martin!
