El tennis és un dels esports més populars a nivell mundial, amb un impacte significatiu no només com a esport d’alt nivell, sinó també com a fenomen cultural, econòmic i social. Els tornejos professionals són esdeveniments globals que apleguen esportistes de tot el món i són seguits per milions de persones. Aquest projecte de recerca se centra principalment en l’àmbit competitiu i explora diversos aspectes relacionats amb el rendiment, com ara les metodologies d’entrenament condicional, l’entrenament tècnic-tàctic, l’anàlisi de la càrrega o l’epidemiologia. L’objectiu principal és proporcionar coneixement científic que recolzi les actuacions dels professionals de l’esport. A més, des d’aquesta mateixa perspectiva, el projecte també inclou altres esports de raqueta com el pàdel, el pickleball i el tennis platja.

Aquest projecte, liderat pel Dr. Ernest Baiget, s’ha convertit en una de les fonts de producció científica en tennis més importants del món. Un exemple d’això son les 5 tesis doctorals desenvolupades en el nostre grup sobre el tennis (Dr. Joshua Colomar, Dr. Ernest Baiget [x2], Dr. Jose Vicente Canós, Dr. Manuel Terraza). Mitjançant aquestes tesis i d’altres publicacions, s’ha millorat el coneixement amb estudis per avaluar la resistència i el rendiment, explorant la relació entre la velocitat de servei, els mètodes d’entrenament de força, i la càrrega de treball dels jugadors. S’han analitzat elements vinculats a la biomecànica i la bioenergètica i elements neuromusculars en el tennis.

També s’ha analitzat l’estructura del joc i les estratègies emprades en partits de Grand Slam. Aquests treballs han permès una millor comprensió de les dinàmiques tècniques i fisiològiques que influencien el rendiment.
